What We Believe

At Community Church Memphis, we operate out of the premise that our beliefs represent deeply held intellectual processes. As the practical outpouring of these beliefs, values shape and direct our behavior. Like the game of telephone, though, by the time our beliefs get to behavior they oftentimes don’t look at all like we intended. Something doesn’t match up, and this disconnect creates problems in our relationships.

What We Believe...

About God

God is the creator and ruler of the universe.  He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

About The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ and lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. The Holy Spirit fills Christians with power for living, daily guidance, various gifts and understanding of spiritual truth.

About The Bible

Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors while inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme and infallible source of truth.

About Human Beings

God created people to mirror his image and character. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This attitude separates people from God.

About Salvation

Salvation is God's free gift to us. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. The only way we can be saved from sin’s penalty is through trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness. We are saved when we give up our self-ruled life and put our faith in Jesus. Eternal life begins the moment we make this decision.

About Eternity

People are immortal, and Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. When we leave this life, the relationships we’ve chosen to have with God will continue throughout eternity. We’ll either be separated from God by sin (Hell), or be with Him forever through forgiveness and salvation (Heaven).

What Our Values Are

We recognize that we will always experience this disconnect unless we include God in this process. Our church has chosen the following collective values to drive interactions with each other and the greater Memphis area.

Relationship. We long for closeness with the hope that each of our new relationships will be free from the shadows of the past. The truth is, unless we make a conscious effort to banish our generational patterns of relating, we will never experience the freedom of true relationship. At CCM, we are committed to being intentional in our relationships with each other. By creating an environment of trust, transparency, love and commitment, we can access the kind of relationship God modeled for us again and again in the Bible. It’s what we were made for.

Relevance. That really makes sense. It was a light bulb moment for me. I can see what you mean. It met me where I was. How do you feel when you have these thoughts? Awakened, understood, energized? We all have to feel personally connected to something before we can truly believe it. Our faith is amazingly relevant, at CCM, we’re committed to presenting it that way.

Revelation. The word “revelation” scares people. It’s fraught with symbols and mystery and has often been used to further the messages of individuals rather than the message of God. Simply put, revelation is the discovery of valuable information. It happens when we pursue truth through the study of God’s character, engagement with each other and an open response to change. Revelation is accessible, ongoing and shared.

Our values are based in our belief in Biblical truths.
